Kalandozás Budapesten: a barlangok és bunkerek fővárosában. / A lifetime underground experience from Budapest: the capital of caves and bunkers.

in English: Famous Hungarian alternative musician Livius Varga has some problem with time. Fed up with the crazy rhythm of Hungary’s capital city he decides to move underground. As a psychologist by profession he’s eager to know what happens to his sense of time after spending days in total darkness. He also hopes that his expedition to the secret time capsules of Budapest helps him to understand the city’s history. Livius is documenting his journey with a small handycam , but we can also follow his daily routine through infrared security cameras. In the first episode he explores the Labyrinth of Kőbánya the 30 km long tunnel system under the X. district of Budapest. Throughout his adventures we learn more and more about the artificial underground facilities of the city: from the nuclear bunker under the castle district to the flooded tunnels of the Kőbánya mine. In the second episode he discovers much older time capsules: the natural caves under the capital. Living in Pálvölgyi cave system the longest in Hungary , Livius faces new challanges. As he becomes more and more familiar with his environment we are getting to know more and more secrets of the undergound Budapest. We explore the marvellous crystals of the strictly protected Józsefhegyi cave, and we accompany highly skilled technical divers discovering one of the longest thermal caves in the world: the Molnár János cave. But how the loneliness affects Livius’ concept of time? Where the timeless darkness of cold stone tunnels drive him after a week of isolation? Budapest Underground features footages never seen before in television: from the underwater springs of Gellért bath to the newly discovered dripstone wonderland of the Pálvölgyi cave system. During the thrilling adventures we realise that the damp darkness hides dizzying secrets: it helps us to understand different concepts of time, connecting our daily life to the history of a metropolis, and to events happened millions of years ago.
